Rabbi Yaakov Nasir, who has not yet reached his 23rd birthday, this week became Israel’s youngest rabbi appointed to an official civil service post, now serving as the rav of northern Netanya and mora d’asra of Kehilas Yosef Shalom.
The rav has been serving in the post unofficially for a number of months. This week, at a siyum on completion of Shas that the young rav was making, Chief Rabbi Yona Yechiel Metzger, the city’s mayor, members of the city’s religious council and hundreds of others were on hand to bestow the title upon him officially. This has led to his receiving another title, albeit unofficial, “Israel’s youngest rav”.
Rabbi Nasir attended Yeshivas Kol Yehuda in Bnei Brak, completing his smicha before getting married. He explained that in yeshiva gedola he realized that he is a motivate individual and wishes to excel in whatever he does, pulling him to continue pursuing many interests, adding he is truly blessed with a great deal of Siyata Dishmaya. He stresses that he has learned he must continue b’darkei noam, and this is how he deals with residents of his community and kehila, adding every person must be addressed respectfully.
