Israel’s peace partner, the PA (Palestinian Authority), which yearns to live side-by-side in peace and harmony with Israel petitioned the International Court of Justice in The Hague, seeking to launch a probe into Israel’s Operation Cast Lead, the military offensive against Hamas’ terrorist infrastructure in Gaza.
The court stated that in line with the Rome Convention, since the PA is not a country it cannot petition the court. Hence, the court rejected the petition filed three years ago, seeking to charge Israel with ‘war crimes’ pertaining to the 2008 military operation.
Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman praised the decision, adding his office was instrumental in persuading the court that the Rome Convention prohibits the court from accepting the PA petition.
