Hundreds of Israeli Arabs took part in a Saturday night rally calling in Arara for the release of the convicted murders of IDF soldier Avi Bromberg HY”D. Bromberg was attacked in November 1981 as he was heading from his IDF base in the Golan Heights to his home in Zichron Yaakov. He was left for dead on the side of a highway, succumbing to his injuries 48 hours later.
Maher and Karim Yunis were convicted of the attack in 1983. They were sentenced to death but the death sentence was commuted and they are serving life in prison.
Members of the Knesset Balad Arab Party are now demanding their release with the feeling they have served their time. According to MK Jamal Zahalka, the two should have been included in Gilad Shalit prisoner release deal.
