Members of the left-wing Meretz Knesset faction on Sunday, 3 Adar 5772, were accompanied by activists from the Breaking the Silence organization for a visit to Hebron. The visitors were met by veteran community residents Baruch Marzel and Itamar Ben-Givir, with the latter also serving as a parliamentary aide to MK (Ichud HaLeumi) Dr. Michael Ben-Ari.
There was a sharp exchange of words between the hosts and newly-elected Meretz leader MK Zahava Gal-On, who accused the two of interrupting their visit. She explained that if students are visiting the city, they must be permitted to see all sides, not just the viewpoint of “fascist Kahanist settlers, but also about the ongoing occupation and the military rule over Palestinians” she exclaimed.
