Dumpster on Bnei Brak’s Yoel Street Results in a Storm

The placement of a dumpster on Yoel Street in Bnei Brak in proximity of the Naot Yosef Shul has resulted in a storm, Kikar Shabbat reports.

According to the report, the dumpster was placed on shul property and the city simply does not have a right to begin working there without permission from the owner, in this case the shul.

According to the city sanitation official Asher Garabi, the placement of the receptacle in that location is for the benefit of the shul and area residents, and not chas v’sholom intended as an affront to mispallalim.

Avreichim however view the act a bit differently, and according to Kikar, they see it as “revenge by City Hall” after the beis medrash did not permit the city to use the property to benefit the city, so in response, they tried to place the large garbage dumpster.

The report concludes that the rav of the shul and the chief rabbi of Ramat HaSharon, Rav Yaakov Edelstein, sent a sharply worded letter to the mayor, calling upon him to use his authority to prevent sanitation officials from compromising the kedusha of the beis medrash.

  1. This seems like an over-reaction. I’m certain this shul and other nearby mosdos produce a lot of trash that must be disposed of. Its a lot more sanitary to have the trasn contained in a large dumpster right by the shul than to have piles of garbage bags sitting outside the building like so many other schools and beis medrashim. They should be happy the officials in BB gave them a dumpster since there is a waiting list in other cities to get one. What kind of disrepect is it to have a trash collection point on the grounds of the facility that produced most of that trash.

  2. @#1 You dont think the rav of the shul knows better then you what the city meant and how to react? This didnt happen in NJ, where you understand the political climate. And how do you know the proximity of the garbage dumpster to the shul. maybe its on the front steps- do you still think youre right? Who said there are other mosdos around at all. dont be so certain.

  3. #1 I don’t know which planet you are from, definitely not a human. reason, I lived in israel for a couple of years, and have not seen any yeshiva big or small put out garbage on the street.
#2) in the usa schools have much more garbage than in israel where most yeshivas don’t have disposable dishes, and where the quality of those disposables are very thin. compacting it is nothing.
#3) i’d like to park a garbage truck in your backyard, ill find a reason it belongs on your property, let the runoff stench your property (more befitting than a shul) especially on tuesdays when the municipality is on strike with no garbage pickup.

main reason is still its private property, you can’t just turn in it into a garbage dump or do whatever you want when you’re not the owner.
