On Wednesday, 22 Shevat, Gush Katif Day will be observed in schools around Israel. This is premised on the law to perpetuate the Gush Katif and N. Shomron Heritage. On that same day 35 years ago, the first community was established, Netzer Hazani.
In earlier years since the government expulsion in 2005, dati leumi schools took part in the day’s events, but this year, the Ministry of Education is calling for observance of the day in all public schools throughout Israel.
770 schools have already turned to the Gush Katif Heritage Center for information, including 75 non-religious public schools. The center has sent out hundreds of educational kits to assist teachers in preparing the day’s program.
During this week, 120 former residents of Gush Katif will be traveling the country, speaking in schools to provide students with firsthand testimony.

This is so sad. Like a tree that was uprooted when was just young, those people still pick up their pieces, and can’t find a place to grow. May Hashem bring us Mashiach tzidkeinu speedily.
