Thursday Morning News Briefs from Eretz Yisrael


An Israeli who entered PA-occupied Kalkilye on Wednesday night was taken by PA forces to the border and handed over to IDF officials unharmed.

** Two yeshiva students leaving a Tu B’Shevat tisch hosted by Rav Morgenstern at King David’s Tomb on Har Tzion were arrested on suspicion of “insulting a religion”. The two were taken to the Kishle Police Station. Honenu reports that the two were arrested at approximately 21:00 on a claim that they had insulted a member of the Christian clergy and will spend the night in remand.

** The IDF Homefront Command is holding emergence training exercises in Ashkelon today.

** Hamas reports senior Izzadin el-Kassam members Haza and Nazer Suafta were apprehended by the IDF.

** Hamas leader Khaled Meshal will be remaining in Qatar after making the decision to flee Syria due to the violence in that county.

14:20: Seismologic Institute officials report an earthquake measuring 3.1 was felt at 1:12pm northwest of Lake Kinneret near Kibbutz Ginosar. No injuries or damage reported.

** Following success in easing congestion by banning IDF soldiers from Israel Railways on Sundays from 06:00-09:00, railway officials are now seeking to do the same on Thursdays, when they head home, to ban soldiers from trains for a three-hour period. The IDF is weighing the decision.
