Tuesday Morning News Briefs from Eretz Yisrael


IDF soldiers taking part in counterterrorism operations throughout Yehuda and Shomron arrested 12 suspects during the night.

** Documents and Jewish scrolls dating back to the 11th century were found in in Afghanistan, in the Samangan Province. There are reportedly approximately 150 documents.

** Israeli citizen Nurit Tucker, who was arrested over three months ago in India after bullets were found in her backpack, was released and she has returned home Monday night. She had words of praise for the Bombay Chabad House, which she explained stood by her side to assist her since her ordeal began.

** Galei Tzahal: Egged has ordered bus drivers to avoid frum neighborhoods shortly before Shabbos to avoid being attacked by rock-throwers. Frum commuters are complaining that this is creating considerable hardships reaching destinations before Shabbos.

** HaGaon HaRav Yaakov Chai ben Margalit Yosef has begun treatment for pancreatic cancer. Today, at 15:00, there will be Yom Kippur Katan tefilos at the Kosel on his behalf. Tefilos will be held at the same time in many shuls around the country.

** YNET: Anthrax scares at the Israeli Consulate in NYC, as well as Israeli Embassies in The Hague and Brussels. Envelopes containing white powder marked “anthrax” arrived at those diplomatic facilities. The contents were analyzed and proved to be harmless powder.

** Police are calling on the public to assist in locating a 16-year-old Hebron youth, Yitzchak, who disappeared in the capital on Monday, 28 Teves. He was last seen in the central bus station during the evening hours. He was wearing a grey sweat suit and a blue shirt, brown shoes and a raincoat. The missing youth is thin, 1.7 meters tall, does not speak and has limited vision. Anyone with information is urged to call the command center at 052-669-3505.

** Rishon L’Tzion HaGaon HaRav Shlomo Moshe Amar Shlita has released a letter warning the tzibur of the threats posed to this generation by the internet, cell phones and other electronic devices.
