Migron Countdown Underway – Under 3 Months to Eviction

The deadline for the High Court of Justice-ordered removal of Migron, a yishuv located near Psagot in the Binyamin Regional Council of Shomron expires on March 31, 2012, Likud primaries are set for month’s end and the last thing Prime Minister Netanyahu wants as we runs for the party leadership slot again is to be photographed preparing for the eviction of more Jews from Yehuda and Shomron, following in the footsteps of Ariel Sharon and his disengagement expulsion government.

Mr. Netanyahu is calling upon Migron residents to accept a state compromise, to agree to have their community copied to another location, one that will be built on state-owned land, land that cannot be disputed. The government explains that all permanent homes will be built on land in the same general area, and this is the best they can do in light of the High Court’s order.

Migron residents are unwilling to accept the offer, unwilling to accept a fait accompli that yet another legitimate community is being uprooted by an Israeli government. They decry the High Court’s decision, one based on bias, never actually receiving legal documentation to support Arab land ownership claims, but more accurately, issuing a ruling that is in line with the courts ultraliberal anti-settlement policy.

In addition, there are calls to legislate a bill that circumvents the court’s decision, the route usually taken to bypass an unwanted High Court decision, but so far, there is no action in this arena.

Activists released a statement that copying a community is simply another way of saying it is being uprooted, and if this will be their fate, they promise to “copy Netanyahu’s seat elsewhere”, explaining he will not be reelected as prime minister.

Ichud Leumi officials’ call the prime minister’s statements ‘word laundering’ and warn he is simply heading towards uprooting the yishuv.

MK Dr. Michael Ben-Ari stated Netanyahu portrays himself as a prime minister of “freezing construction and uprooting” and it is clear to all that Migron is the gateway to Yehuda and Shomron, and if he succeeds in uprooting this community, he will continue elsewhere as is his plan. Ben-Ari suggested that the prime minister enforce housing regulations in Um el-Fahm and Rahat.

Settlement Council leader Danny Danon expressed confidence that an agreement can be reached but added Migron cannot be destroyed.
