44 new speed cameras were installed on Israeli roadways, cameras designed to photograph speeding motorists and then send them a fine. Treasury officials expect to earn millions of shekels annually from the new cameras. Experts predict the roadways with the new cameras will double the number of speeding fines issued.
It is also reported in the daily HaMevaser that if a driver opts to challenge a fine and the appeal is lost based on documented photo imagery from the camera, the original fine will be increased, significantly – a deterrence to seeking to adjudicate a speeding ticket in a traffic court.
