Jordan’s King Abdullah II will be visiting in Ramallah on Monday, November 21, 2011, the state-run Petra news agency confirmed on Sunday night. The move is seen by most as a surprise; with officials in the Hashemite Kingdom explaining this is part of the king’s showing of support for the PA (Palestinian Authority) and its residents, with the monarch voicing his support for the establishment of Palestine on the pre-1967 borders with Israel.
Interestingly, the Jordanian monarch opts to ignore the period during which his father King Hussein occupied the Old City of Jerusalem, from 1948-1967, when Jordanians routinely defiled and defaced anything to do with the Jewish People and Am Yisrael’s Biblical claim to the land. This included using gravestones from Har HaZeisim for backdrops for urinals in bathrooms.
Aware of the fact that Jordan will not receive it occupied land back after losing the Six Day War in 1967, the king seeks to grab portions of Eretz Yisrael for the so-called Palestinian people, settling for at least taking it away from the Jews.
While considered an ally of Israel, a nation which maintains diplomatic relations with the Jewish State, Jordan of late has been an outspoken critic of Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and his government, blaming stalled peace negotiations and delays in Palestinian statehood on Israel alone.
