Senior IDF officers feel that the deal by which Israel is releasing 1,027 terrorists to gain Gilad Shalit’s freedom will result in additional terror, the daily Yisrael HaYom reports, quoting the “senior officers” anonymously.
The report adds that the Israeli media reported that if the deal fell through, such a reality would have negatively impacted motivation among troops, who would feel that everything would not be done to bring them home, but the officers are quoted as saying the quite the contrary is true.
They explain that now, with the realization that prison is a revolving door, the soldiers lack motivation to place themselves in harm’s way to apprehend wanted suspects in the future.
Other officers add that the release of terrorists with blood on their hands exhibits impuissance on Israel’s part, a reality that will negatively impact the state’s deterrence abilities in the future.

As long as the Palestinians lack the ability to take and hold territory, they will use “terror.” Prisoners for exchange aren’t a major factor.
