Israel Prison Service (IPS) officials report that on September 27th, approximately 50 Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine security prisoners in Israeli prisons began an open-ended hunger strike. Additional prisoners have since joined them. Approximately 234 prisoners are now on hunger strike. (Several prisoners who began the strike have since stopped.)
The strikers have issued a statement that they are protesting the fact that some of the prisoners have been separated from the general population (even though such separation is according to court orders). Several prisoners are also claiming that the IPS has infringed on various aspects of their living conditions.
The prisoners on hunger-strike are under daily medical supervision and their situation is satisfactory. (The strikers are drinking water.) Aside from IPS supervision, the prisoners receive visits by members of the International Committee of the Red Cross and meet with their attorneys, to the extent possible.
IPS personnel are in touch with the prisoners; the IPS is ready for all possible developments, as per assessments of the situation. Since the beginning of the strike, no exceptional incidents have been recorded.

good. I hope they starve to death
YAY! Who cares.. Let them protest, saves on food.. Let them continue protesting and not eating. They should put the pressure on their leaders regarding Gilad Shalit..
1. Why did the Israeli government even bother to announce this? The way to surpress publicity stunts is not to publicize this.
2. If the Israelis held such prisoners incognito until Shalit is released it would put pressure on the Palestinians to reciprocate.
Don’t tell me they fast the Ramadan style.
Let them starve!!!
Bunch of animals. Let them starve. They don’t deserve our food anyways.
They’re protesting their “living conditions”?? What a joke! And what kind of living conditions does Gilad Shalit have?
