A letter was sent to Akko Imam Sheikh Samir Aasi, calling upon him to assist in the case of a grill restaurant operating in the city on Shabbos, leading to the aroma of the grill ‘disturbing’ mispallalim in a nearby shul. A copy of the letter was also sent to Mayor Shimon Lankri, as well as the city’s religious council.

The politely written letter signed by Yisrael Beitenu councilmen calls upon the imam to “use his influence” towards persuading the involved parties to try to cooperate. It appears the sheikh has been helpful in the past towards ironing out similar problems in the racially mixed city, the weekly BaKehilla reports.
