Wednesday News Briefs From Eretz Yisrael


** An Egyptian court extended the remand of suspected Mossad agent Ilan [Chaim ben Chava] Grapel (http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/article.php?p=99891) for an additional 45 days. Egypt ignored an appeal on his behalf by the US Embassy. Grapel, who was arrested in June, is a student in Emory University Law School and has also served in the IDF.

10:01: PA media reports Israel opened the Kerem Shalom crossing to Gaza to permit the transfer of goods into Hamas-controlled Gaza.

11:19: Maran HaGaon HaRav Yosef Sholom Elyashiv Shlita is out of cataract surgery in Shaare Zedek Medical Center. Baruch Hashem, the surgery was successful.

11:35: Residents of the Kiryat Giora neighborhood of Ohr Yehuda instructed to boil water after extremely high levels of microbiological entity found in city’s water supply.

** FM Avigdor Lieberman warns of grave ramifications as a result of PA unilateral declaration of statehood. He added the days of one-sided Israeli goodwill gestures are gone since they are taken for granted and perceived as a sign of weakness.

** DM Ehud Barak to meet on Wednesday with UN Quartet envoy Tony Blair and EU Commissioner of Foreign Affairs Catherine Ashton ahead of PA’s planned declaration of independence.

** MAAN: Hamas announces it plans to maintain headquarters in Syria despite unrest in that country.

** PA’s Jibril Rajoub warned Price Tag activists that if they enter PA areas their lives are in danger and they should not feel they can do so with impunity.

** PM Netanyahu is going to convene his forum of 8 senior ministers to discuss the breakdown in relations with Turkey as well as Israel’s response to a PA declaration of independence.
