Today, 8 Elul, marks six years since the churban in Gush Katif, the Arab destruction of the shuls of that once illustrious Jewish community. A special event was organized in the Churva Shul in Jerusalem’s Old City by Gush Katif Museum officials.
The day was also marked by Posek HaDor Maran Rav Yosef Sholom Elyashiv Shlita, who after shachris received attorney Gilad Kornfeld, who was a leader in the legal battle against the expulsion, one who sought to use the Israeli judicial system to save the shuls in the area.
Kornfeld presented Rav Elyashiv with his book, משפט נעילה – המירוץ להגנת בתי-הכנסת של גוש-קטיף as well as receiving a bracha from the Rav. The Rav probed the book and expressed his satisfaction with Kornfeld’s work.
During the meeting, they showed Rav Elyashiv his hand-written letter from then, a p’sak which called for adhering to the international commitment to protect shuls in Gush Katif and Northern Shomron, realizing the Arabs would desecrate or destroy them, which we now know was the case.
The book describes the legal, political and Halachic issues faced by Kornfeld during his struggle to save the shuls, drawing on all the Halachic rulings he could amass in the hope of emerging with an Israeli court ruling that would result in protecting the shuls.

thinking of Gush Katif renews my anger at the government every time. Sharon sealed his own fate.
The heading is grossly misleading. Rav Elyashiv, shlita, may or may have not marked the anniversary. There is nothing in the article that tells you one way or another.
#2 Headlines are always spectacular and sensational, that’s what gets you to read the article.
