6:00PM EST: A massive fire has engulfed the roof of a large residential building on East Houston Street and Avenue A in Manhattan on Thursday evening.

Numerous fire trucks are on the scene for the three-alarm fire.

The building is encompassed by scaffolding, suggesting some kind of construction is underway there.

The NYPD has closed Houston Street to traffic, diverting cars and buses away.
