A number of former senior Turkish navy and air force officers were among the 50 people arrested in Turkey in what officials report prevented a coup.
Among those arrested are Ibrahim Firtina, a former air force commander as well as the former commander of the navy.
In addition, reports indicate five former senior military and intelligence officers are in custody in the failed coup operated.

Considering the direction Turkey has been going in lately, it’s hard to know if the failure of this coup was a good thing or a bad thing.
#1 – bad thing, for Israel. The Turkish military has always been strongly secular, and multiple coups have taken place there to protect the country’s secular nature.
Other media reported earlier this week that it was a group of secularist (former) military commanders who wanted to overthrow the Islamist government of Erdogan.
You just wait. They’ll soon say that Israel was behind it!
