Iran has blocked access to Facebook as the nation prepares for national elections.
Supporters of Mir Hossein Mousavi, a leading reformist candidate, suggested on Sunday that the move was aimed at reducing opposition to Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the current president, al-Jazeera reports.
An aide to Mousavi adds that any media station that even hints at opposing Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad risks being shut down. One of the pro-Mousavi pages on Facebook has over 6,000 supporters but Ahmadinejad is not taking any chances.
