MTA Sets Hearing Monday On Fare Hike

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority will hold a hearing in Rockland County Monday about its plan to increase Metro-North Railroad fares an average of 29 percent.

The hearing will be held in the community room at the Palisades Center, the shopping center off the New York State Thruway a mile west of the Tappan Zee Bridge. It begins at 6 p.m. and registration to speak ends at 9 p.m. Speakers are limited to three minutes each.

Similar increases are planned for the MTA’s other subsidiaries, Long Island Rail Road, New York City Transit, and Bridges and Tunnels, to close a $1.2 billion gap in the agency’s 2009 budget. Cuts in service are also proposed.
