New Jersey officials say 541 people died on state roads during the first 11 months of 2008, a decline of 126 from the same period last year.
The data was included in the annual highway safety report sent to the state Legislature, which also showed overall traffic deaths in New Jersey dropped from 771 in 2006 to 724 in 2007.
The report shows seat belt use at an all-time high of 92 percent.
