Councilmember de Blasio Supports Stable Brooklyn Rezoning

Councilmember Bill de Blasio supports the Department of City Planning (DCP) and the Stable Brooklyn community’s proposed rezoning to preserve the quality and character of their neighborhood. Stable Brooklyn is a small neighborhood in East Windsor Terrace that has become particularly vulnerable to overdevelopment. Numerous out-of-scale developments have already been proposed, and DCP and Stable Brooklyn’s proposed down zoning will protect the area from further developments of this nature.

“Stable Brooklyn is a small neighborhood with significant character and charm.  The Stable Brooklyn community group developed a thorough zoning plan for the area, much of which City Planning took into consideration. Thanks to the extremely hard work of Stable Brooklyn and Community Board 7, this community will be protected from out of context future development. Most importantly, this down zoning, coupled with similar efforts in surrounding communities, is a key step toward maintaining vibrant neighborhoods throughout Brooklyn,” said Councilmember Bill de Blasio.

“This rezoning is largely in agreement with what participants in the Stable Brooklyn Community Group planning workshop devised. We believe it is an important first step toward safeguarding the neighborhood and ensuring that future growth is not just tacked on, but integrated into the existing community,” said Mandy Harris, President of Stable Brooklyn. “We urge everyone to support this rezoning and the other proposals included in our report, as they were carefully conceived and guided by principles of diversity, livability, and inclusiveness.”

“We are pleased that after three years of struggle and advocacy, the wishes of residents of East Windsor Terrace are finally being heard.  We applaud Stable Brooklyn and all those who have participated in this process, and the community board pledges swift action on this ULURP,” said Randy Peers, President of Brooklyn Community Board 7.
