Gov. Paterson says his current plan to reduce government spending doesn’t include layoffs of state employees. But the governor isn’t ruling out the possibility of layoffs in the 2009-2010 state fiscal year that begins April 1.
Paterson wants to cut the growth in school aid in the current fiscal year by just less than half and increase tuition at state colleges by $600.
He’s also calling for concessions from unionized state workers to avoid any layoffs and cut $41 million from municipal aid to New York City.
