A new program by the Israeli Consul General to New England, Nadav Tamir, a program which enjoys White House backing and the cooperation of Jewish groups on campus is up and running.
Over 100 students registered for the new initiative; including students studying for a bachelor’s or graduate degrees at Harvard, MIT, Boston, Brown, and Emerson College. The students will be active in promoting Israel on their respective campuses, and they will receive assistance from the consul general’s office, including materials for distribution.
According to Tamir, a Harvard graduate, it is “easy to promote Israel on campus,” explaining to his new recruits that one can make progress even during informal chats in hallways. He stresses pushing the accomplishments in the fields of hi-tech, sciences, medicine, arts and culture, as well as stressing Israel’s high regard for a democratic system of government.
“One can not avoid entering into the conflict in the region” he explains, since this is a topic that will always be raised by opponents. He suggests stressing Israel yearns for peace with her neighbors and seeks to contribute to the Mideast and humanity at large.
