4:20PM EST: U.S. stocks fell the most in a week after American International Group Inc.’s unexpected loss dragged down financial shares and Wal-Mart Stores Inc.’s forecast for slower sales growth sent retailers lower.

The S&P500 Index lost 23.12 points, or 1.8 percent, to 1,266.07, retreating from a six-week high. The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 224.64, or 1.9 percent, to 11,431.43. The Nasdaq Composite Index decreased 22.64, or 1 percent, to 2,355.73.
