Nine people were arrested Tuesday on charges of bribing New York City Department of Buildings inspectors.
Rose Gill Hearn, the commissioner of the City’s Department of Investigation, said that DOB inspectors alerted them to the bribes to overlook violations, which ranged from $45 to $3,000.
“So this certainly is about public safely, and we are so delighted that DOB employees came forward and reported these bribes rather than take these bribes,” said Hearn. And it’s a real message that our employees and inspectors are not for sale.”
Arrests were made in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, and Staten Island. Those arrested include a building superintendent, two dry cleaners, three contractors, a restaurant owner, and a homeowner.
