U.S. stocks rose for the third day this week: The S&P 500 added 1.78, or 0.1 percent, to 1,369.31. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 20.2, or 0.2 percent, to 12,626.03. The Nasdaq Composite Index increased 1.9, or 0.1 percent, to 2,363.3. On the New York Stock Exchange, 998 stocks advanced and 859 retreated.
