The wreckage of a plane that crashed in the mountains of western Venezuela carrying 46 people was spotted by helicopter on Friday, a fire official told Fox News. The wreckage was located about 6 miles from the airport in the Andean city of Merida, from where the plane departed, Gen. Ramon Vina, head of the civil aviation authority told reporters.

The twin-engine plane left the western city of Merida on Thursday afternoon en route to the capital and was reported missing 30 minutes later.

Officials believe there were no survivors.
