Amtrak Beefs Up Security At Penn Station

Amtrak is taking a cue from the NYC subways by introducing random bag screenings.

The railroad unveiled new security measures today, including random screenings of carry-on bags and armed patrols on platforms and trains. Amtrak says the screening procedures are similar to those already being done in the subways and won’t hold up the flow of passengers.

The railroad’s so-called “mobile security teams” will first be put in place in the Northeast Corridor between Washington D.C. and Boston, before expanding to the rest of the country.
