Alaska has more earthquakes and volcanoes than almost any other place on earth. The reason you don’t hear so much about them is because there aren’t too many people there.
When I visited the University of Alaska Geophysical Institute in Fairbanks, their earthquake meter announced an earthquake a few times an hour.
Yesterday (18 December) they registered 44 earthquakes in Alaska (see http://www.aeic.alaska.edu/Seis/recenteqs_sub/index.html)
