Lakewood Chaveirim has issued a Travel advisory to people traveling this Friday, Erev Shabbos Chanukah, which is also “Black Friday”. The Thanksgiving holiday weekend is one of the busiest travel days of the year, which means expect ALOT of traffic. Black Friday sale shoppers will fill the roads on Friday, causing much more traffic than usual.
A Chaveirim member tells YWN, “This past Friday a family member left Lakewood at 1:00 pm and due to traffic arrived in Brooklyn just minutes before Shabbos, they were frightened about the prospect of spending Shabbos in the unknown.”
Rabbi Yehuda Tzvi Rotberg, Lakewood Chaveirim’s Special operations Coordinator and Shabbos program director tells YWN, that the past few months – and especially the past few weeks since the clock was changed – Chaveirim had numerous calls of people who were on the roads just minutes before Shabbos. He says people that see that they will not be able to get to their destination on time should not wait until 5 minutes before shabbos to call. Please call right away so Chaveirim has enough time to help get accommodations nearby or make other necessary arrangements.
According to Rabbonim contacted by Chaveirim one must give himself double the amount of time when traveling on Erev Shabbos. Chaveirim urges all travelers to give themselves an additional 1 ½hrs. this Friday.
