MRS. MICHAL SCHICK – BOBBIES PLACE:
Mrs. Michal Schick, the founder of Bobbies Place has been nominated as a ‘Jewish Community Hero’. By voting for Mrs. Schick , you can make her the winner of $25,000 for her cause, Bobbies Place. Until November 10, please vote every day.
An exceptionally compassionate, warm and empathic person, Michal has a special place in her heart for children and their well being. Acutely aware of the fact that due to difficult economic times, many parents can not afford to buy their children new, fashionable clothes, which could lead to feelings of inferiority and impact self image,as children want to feel equal to their peers, Michal has striven to ensure that all children have the opportunity to possess new, up to date clothing at no cost. Moreover, the clothing is made available in the most dignified manner, provided in a store like setting, with neatly arranged racks, dressing rooms and volunteers, who help “customers” make their selections. Because of the store-like setting, children do not realize that the clothing is provided free of charge, eliminating any feelings of discomfort. Michal spends countless hours purchasing clothing, accepting deliveries, stocking, arranging for volunteers, making appointments for families and manning “the store.” All of this is done in a pleasant, calm, efficient manner. The warmth and kindness that she demonstrates toward parents and children has become legendary, with at least one referance to her as “the angel of Flatbush.” While Michal”s husband works at raising money for this worthy cause, Michal is the hands on person, the face of the charity, serving the needs of thousands of families, For many in our community, she is a true heroine.
