Long Island Rail Road service is suspended on several lines because of signal problems caused by lightning strikes.

Service on the Hempstead, Ronkonkoma, Huntington, Port Jefferson, Oyster Bay, Montauk and Babylon branches is suspended.

A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect in Nassau County and Queens until 4:30 p.m. The storms are capable of producing damaging winds up to 60 mph and golf-ball-sized hail, forecasters say.

Some trains are making added stops on the suspended lines; evening commuters can expect delays.

New York City Transit is cross-honoring LIRR fares at points west of Jamaica.
