Some cable viewers in New York City, Long Island, Westchester County and New Jersey can now add Al-Jazeera English to their menu of television news providers.
Al-Jazeera English became available to Time Warner Cable customers on Monday. It will be launched by Verizon FiOS in the coming days. The Regional News Network’s RISE channel is also participating.
RNN President Dick French said Al-Jazeera English is committed to covering “underreported regions” in Latin America, Africa, the Middle East and Asia.
There also will be some local and children’s programming.
In March, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton called the Arab broadcaster “a leader in changing people’s minds and attitudes.”
It already was offered in Vermont, Ohio and Washington, D.C., and Los Angeles, and has an Internet following.

If it is based in the US, the FCC can regulate it.
