Police say they nabbed a 44-year-old housekeeper who stole a $25,000 diamond from a home she was cleaning by plucking the family heirloom from an engagement ring and replacing it with a phony replica.
Roseann Korzelius-Perez, who lives in Monroe and owns CSI cleaning service, was sent to Orange County Jail in lieu of $1,000 bail after being charged Tuesday with grand larceny, a felony.
According to Village of Monroe police, the victim noticed something wrong with her ring and took it to a jeweler, who informed her the stone was cubic zirconia. After interviewing the housekeeper, officers retrieved the stolen diamond from the garage of an elderly neighbor, who had no idea the stone had been stashed there, police said.
