Poll Shows Bachmann Holding Iowa Lead

A new poll of Iowa Republicans released Sunday night suggested that Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) enjoys momentum in the race to win the state’s caucuses.

Twenty-five percent of likely Republican caucusgoers said they would support Bachmann, the Tea Party favorite, as the GOP presidential nominee, surpassing former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney (R).

Romney and Bachmann were virtually tied, at 23-22 percent, respectively, in a mid-June edition of the Iowa Poll, published by the Des Moines Register. This new poll, conducted at the end of June for The Iowa Republican, suggests movement in favor of Bachmann, though it might not capture the immediate state of the race.

It underscores the boomlet, though, that the Minnesota congresswoman has enjoyed in Iowa since making a late entry into the field in June. She’s enjoyed particular success in Iowa, where she looks like a frontrunner, since Romney is unlikely to compete in the state, and former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty (R) struggles to gain traction.

Pawlenty’s difficulty gaining momentum prompted him to openly question Bachmann’s qualifications on Sunday, calling her legislative record “non-existent.” He placed third in the poll, at nine percent, tied with former Godfather’s Pizza CEO Herman Cain.

  1. SHe is “a” tea party favorite, not “the” tea party favorite. THe poll might be indicate which candidate Iowa tea party supporters prefer, at most. Remember that the tea party is a very ill-defined movement without formal membership, so the use of “the” is inappropriate in this context.

  2. It’s a long and winding road between now and the nomination at the GOP convention. It will be interesting to watch the ebb and flow of the tides. Ultimately, I hope the GOP puts up someone for the ABOers (Anyone But Obama).

  3. The grammar is right. I can correctly refer to “Eduardo Nunez, the Yankees shortstop” even though their is another person who also plays that position for them, as it would mean he plays shortstop for the Yankees, with the “the” being an article describing the team not Nunez’s relative uniqueness. Same here. Bachmann is a favorite of the Tea Party, therefore she can be fairly called “the Tea Party favorite.” (Provided you agree with capitalizing Tea Party here, which I think is more questionable.)

  4. “More good news for Obama! Against Bachmann he will win in a landslide.”

Bachman is not another Sarah Palin aldough the media tries to portray her as such, she is not clueless when it comes to the ishues, she can list down any goverment facts and numbers off her head (without looking on her palm…) something Obama cant.

  5. And BTW acording to former DNC cheirman Howerd Dean in this aconomy Obama is not secured even if he runs against Palin.

  6. I love it!! The drones are out in force showing who they are afraid is going to trounce their obama & his teleprompter.
