Will Skelos Face Angry Jews This Morning On Same-Gender Marriage?

Senator Skelos will be attending a breakfast in Lawrence Sunday morning, and according to the invitation he will be discussing “issues affecting our community”.

Will he face any angry Jews about the same-gender marriage vote? Or will it be business as usual – rubbing shoulders with politicians, and taking all smiley, happy photos together?

From an invitation YWN was sent by a reader:

  1. He is at fault for bringing the legislation to the floor of the Senate. He could have killed the toeiva “marriage” bill by not bringing it to a vote. Almost all the Repubicans were against it (except for 4 out of 32), and they had the power to kill the bill without a vote.

    He is at fault.

  2. Are New York Jews, especially in the City, willing to give up the patronage they get by being Democrats, and over an issue that doesn’t directly affect us (we can still marry and divorce according to our laws regardless of what the goyim are doing). While most Orthodox Jews are social conservatives, we are hardly tea party types when it comes to accepting patronage and government benefits.

And this is in fact consistent with the Torah. It provides for an intrusive government with high taxes, lots of regulation of commerce, and generous social programs. But there is no question that by contemporary standards it is socially conservative if not reactionary. No way that a Torah society would countenance same sex marriage. But the Torah’s restrictions on business activity go far beyond what even the farthest left politician in America advocates today.

The trend in the United States however is toward lower taxes, gutting of social programs, and anything goes socially.
