Albany Considers Wine For Sale In Grocery Stores

The effort to sell wine in New York grocery stores is back.

A bill with bi-partisan support in the Senate and Assembly would allow grocery stores to sell wine as is done in many other states.

In New York, the effort has been opposed for years by liquor stores. Liquor store owners say the sale of wine in big grocery stores would cut too deeply into their usually small, owner-operated stores.

The business group called New Yorkers for Economic Growth and Open Markets says the bill would create jobs in New York.

The bill could soon reach the floor of the Senate and Assembly for a vote. The legislative session is scheduled to end in four weeks.
