Suzanne Mubarak, the wife of ousted President Hosni Mubarak, has agreed to turn over millions of dollars worth of assets to the Egyptian government in exchange for a release from detention without bail, officials of the Egyptian interior ministry said Tuesday.
One government spokesman said Mrs. Mubarak had agreed to turn over assets worth 24 million Egyptian pounds, or about $4 million, but Egyptian corruption investigators were not immediately available to confirm that sum.
Interior ministry officials said Mrs. Mubarak still faces criminal corruption charges on accusations of exploiting her position as First Lady for personal profit.
