Today, the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America, the nation’s largest Orthodox Jewish umbrella organization, sent a letter to New York City Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly lauding him and the NYPD for their steadfast work in thwarting a terrorist plot which was supposed to be against an NYC Synagogue.
In the letter to Commissioner Kelly, Orthodox Union Director of Community Engagement Judah Issacs and Orthodox Union Deputy Director of Public Policy Howie Beigelman wrote:
“We write on behalf of our members and communities across the globe, but especially our hundreds of synagogues and thousands of members here in New York to thank you and the brave men and women of the NYPD for last night’s terror plot arrests. Synagogues are open and welcoming; unfortunately evil people try to use that to their advantage. Any attack on a synagogue is horrific but even more so a potential “active shooter” scenario during services…Terrorists represent the worst of humanity. The NYPD represents the very best. We are grateful they are our “thin blue line” and for the continued partnership and commitment between the NYPD and our community.”
