New Yorkers May Have Millions In Unclaimed Tax Refunds

New Yorkers may be short tens of millions of dollars in unclaimed tax refunds.

The Internal Revenue Service estimates the federal government owes 26,000 city residents more than $33 million in unclaimed refunds from 2007.

In addition, there are $418 million in unclaimed 2009 college tuition tax credits, according to the U.S. Treasury and State Education Department.

With Tax Day one week away, Senator Charles Schumer is encouraging New Yorks to file their claims.

If the money is not claimed when filed, it goes to the government.

The deadline to file federal taxes is April 18.
