Espada Jr., Son Plead Not Guilty To New Fraud Charges

Former New York State Senator Pedro Espada Junior pled not guilty this morning to a new round of fraud charges.

A Brooklyn federal grand jury last week released a revised indictment that charges the two with filing false tax returns and wire fraud.

Espada, Jr. and his son, Pedro G. Espada, had already been charged with embezzlement and conspiracy back in December.

They pleaded not guilty to those charges as well.

The two are accused of stealing more than half a million dollars from the Soundview Healthcare Network, a taxpayer funded health clinic in the Bronx.

A conviction for those charges could mean up to 55 years in prison and more than a million dollars in fines each.

Both men are due back in court on June 23rd.
