The number of people slain in the Big Apple has plummeted so far this year, newly released statistics show.
As of yesterday, 62 New Yorkers have been murdered in the city compared with 79 last year, a 22 percent drop.
Nine of the recorded homicides resulted from incidents from previous years.
Sixty one percent of the victims were black, 27 percent Hispanic and 11 percent white.
Fifty eight percent of the murder suspects were black, 36 percent Hispanic and 11 percent white.
Most of the homicide victims were shot to death.
