Christian Dior Fires Designer John Galliano After Anti-Semitic Rant Caught On Video

John Galliano has been fired from his position at Christian Dior over his alleged anti-Semitism.

Sidney Toledano, the French label’s president and chief executive officer told WWD: ‘I condemn most firmly the statements made by John Galliano which are total contradiction with the essential values that have always been defended by the House of Christian Dior.’

Meanwhile, Oscar winner Natalie Portman today expressed her disgust at the British fashion designer.

The 29-year-old actress said she was shocked by a video in which Mr Galliano says ‘I love Hitler’ and says two women ‘should have been gassed’.

Ms Portman, who was born in Israel, said she would ‘not be associated with him in any way’.

She is currently the face of a perfume by Christian Dior – the fashion label which has suspended Galliano as its chief designer pending an enquiry.

An unwillingness by celebrities will not help Galliano’s cause – despite him pleading ‘I’m no racist’ as he presented himself at a police station in Paris yesterday

The fact that she has now publicly attacked him means his future will be increasingly untenable, especially as he faces a prison sentence for his remarks.

Ms Portman said in a statement: ‘I am deeply shocked and disgusted by the video of John Galliano’s comments that surfaced today.

‘In light of this video, and as an individual who is proud to be Jewish, I will not be associated with Mr. Galliano in any way.

  1. The photo that accompanies this article is out of place in a frum publication, as it portrays a woman dressed in a man’s black hat, apparently mocking the style of hat worn by frum Jews, and wearing men’s clothing in contravention of tznius.

  2. The photo that accompanies this article is a picture of this racist meshuggene MALE designer. It may be out of taste, but it is not a female mocking anything. Just a plain old male nutcase.

  3. #2 and #3,

YWN never publishes photos of women. (Well, OK, except for the alluring profile of Helen Thomas.) I’m pretty sure this is a man, presumably Galliano himself. Look at his hand – that is NOT a woman’s hand.

  4. You might ot realize becuase of his hair but its not a woman in the picture that is the fashion designer accompanied by his body guards and lawyers. He is dressing in a flamboyant manner as many of the weird fashion designers do, it is nothing against frumkeit. Please Dan Likaf zechus YWN that they would not knowingly put up a non-tznius picture of a woman

  5. LISTEN-UP–THERE IS A MESSAGE HERE FOR OUR COMMMUNITY:

Many of our wives and daughters worship at the altar of high fashion, whose poster-woman is Christian Dior.

New, we can finally get a glimpse of the Bilaam who is the Chief Designer at Dior–the man who is subverting our Tznius!

Let’s separate ourselves from these overpriced labels, designed by Reshoim, and return to modest, real-Jewish standards of dress.

  6. Could the YWN editors clear up the confusion (mostly mine) about who is depicted in the photo accompanying this article. And would the YWN editors please confirm or deny the allegation of No. 7 that YWN never publishes photos of women, other than the degrading photo of Helen Thomas.

  7. Deepthinker, Halevei I could afford Dior, Valentino & so on! I’m a Target (pronounced Tar-ghay) person my self! 😉
