Jewish Doctor Killed In Upstate NY Plane Crash

A New Jersey doctor scheduled to work at an Upstate NY hospital has been identified as the victim of a small engine plane crash in Yates County Wednesday night.

Dr. Michael S. Lippe, 56, of Mahway, N.J., was flying towards the Penn Yan airport when his single-engine aircraft clipped the tops of trees before crashing.

The plane went down in a hilly, wooded area about one-half mile north of State Route 230, between John Green and Bill Bailey roads.

The crash was reported at 7:50 p.m. by area residents who said they saw a fire glow in the woods.

Lippe was partially ejected from the cockpit and sustained massive injuries, Yates County Sheriff Ron Spike reported. The plane broke up on impact and the debris field was approximately 100 yards long.

Lippe was scheduled to work tonight as an emergency room doctor at the Finger Lakes Health Geneva Hospital.

Investigators from the Federal Aviation Administration and Yates deputies were reported on the scene this morning.

Misaskim is in touch with the local authorities to ensure proper Kavod HaNiftar.

Lippe was married with four daughters.
