President Obama is in Afghanistan on a surprise visit, sources told ABC News.
Obama’s surprise trip comes as fallout continues from the release of Wikileaks reports that documented rampant bribery in the war-torn country.
This is Obama’s third trip to the country and his second as president.
Obama made his first trip to Afghanistan as commander-in-chief in March when he delivered a pep talk to U.S. service members and told Afghan President Hamid Karzai he needs to work harder to fight corruption.
The president’s first trip, shrouded in secrecy because of security reasons, lasted a mere six hours.
He also made a surprise and secret trip to Baghdad in April 2009.
Obama first visited Afghanistan as a senator on July 19, 2008 when he was campaigning for the White House.
Former President George W. Bush visited Afghanistan twice, first in March 2006 and then at the end of his presidency in December 2008. In contrast, he made twice as many trips to Iraq.
