Fire deaths are down 18 percent from last year.
That’s according to New York City Fire Department Commissioner Salvatore Cassano.
While the city hasn’t released raw numbers just yet, 2010 is on track to see a dramatic drop in the number of civilian fire deaths from 2009.
If this year’s number holds, it could be the lowest number of all time.
Last year was a record low with 73 people killed in fires.
The number of structural fires was also at a low, down more than a percent from 2008.
