A member of Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s security detail has been released on bail after he was arraigned on charges of shooting an acquaintance.
New York City Police Detective Leopold McLean, 46, was released on bail Friday after pleading not guilty to a number of charges including attempted murder and assault.
McLean is accused of shooting Lepaul Gammons, outside the woman’s home in South Jamaica, Queens on November 12.
Authorities say Gammons, who was unarmed, had turned up there in violation of a restraining order.
Prosecutors say McLean pointed a handgun at Gammons, who asked if McLean was going to shoot him, then fired as Gammons ran away, hitting him in the buttocks.
McLean, a 17-year veteran of the force, faces up to 25 years in prison if convicted.
