[The following story has been posted in the YWN Shomrim Blotter as well.]
Members of Williamsburg Shomrim (WSPU) successfully apprehended a suspect on Tuesday who was wanted for numerous residential burglaries which plagued the Chasidic community during the past few weeks.
At approximately noon on Tuesday, WSPU recieved a call from a frantic person claiming that someone is breaking into his home on Rodney Street near Lee Ave. As the first Shomrim Volunteer arrived on the scene, the suspect started fleeing on foot.
The NYPD’s 90th Pct was notified, and after a short foot pursuit the suspect was safely apprehended by Shomrim members at the corner of Wilson Street near Lee Avenue, just a few blocks away from the crime. He was taken into custody by arriving officers without further incident.
Upon his arrival at the Pct, it was learned that the suspect has an extensive criminal history, and has been arrested numerous times for a variety of crimes.
Deputy Inspector Kemper, who is the Commanding Officer of the NYPD’s 90 Precinct gave a special thanks to Shomrim for the fast response and professional work in nabbing this perpetrator. He also thanked the volunteer patrol for their hard work all year round in working to keep the Williamsburg neighborhood safe hand-in-hand with the NYPD.
