Waterbury CT – At 1:00am on Thursday night, the second night of Yom Tov, a member of the Jewish Community was awoken by a carbon monoxide alarm ringing. He quickly called 911 and Hatzalah. Upon arrival of Hatzalah and Waterbury Fire Department the emergency responders quickly realized that there was a carbon monoxide leak in the home. While Hatzalah members evaluated and treated the family members for carbon monoxide poisoning, the fire department contained the leak and fixed the pipe where the leak originated from, saving the lives of the family.
What is even more surprising is that the fire department arrived back at the home on Friday morning, Erev Shabbos to turn back on the gas line so that the family could use their stove on oven for Yom Tov. This was due to the multiple sensitivity trainings given by Rabbi Menachem Karolitzsky, the chaplain and community liaison to the fire department. The Waterbury Fire Department has been working alongside Hatzalah in Waterbury since Hatzalah’s inception.

I think we should give a thank you to not just Rabbi Karolitzsky, but the entire fire department for making the extra trip out of pure consideration for our needs!!!
